1867 Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company Stock Certificate
Iconic Newark, New Jersey life
insurance
company founded in 1845. It was known as the “Tiffany” of life insurance companies as they catered primarily to the upper class. They survived until 1991 when they were put into receivership after losses in the real estate market. In 2001 they were liquidated and dissolved. Their old building at 300 Broadway is on the National Register of Historic Places. Issued to Hiram Holcomb on Jan. 1, 1867. R33 revenue stamp on the front.
