We use premium genuine vegetable tanned cowhide leather, 2-3 mm thick, mounted on both sides of a hardwood paddle. The strop is large enough to accomodate fine cutlery, such as chefs knives, as well as razors. The leather surface measures a total of 59.5 sq in. Both sides are 8.5 x 3.5. ,With a very convenient finger hole at one end.
Stropping should only be done on blades which have been sharpened with sharpening stone(s) or on a sharp blade to maintain it’s sharpness. This Big Foot is a Leather Strop for sharpening all your cutting blades. Two sided to allow 2 different sharpening compounds on a single strop. To obtain best results you should start with more aggressive compounds working down to very fine compound to obtain the very best polished blade surface.

There are many stropping compounds available. Just as you use different stones to sharpen blades, going from course down to fine in several steps, the same is true for stropping. We have found the best compounds, as well as the cheapest, are the solid sticks in a variety of grits. Although considerably more expensive, diamond suspensions will not breakdown and will be very consistent during the stropping process and produce exceptional results.you can get diamond suspensions in spray or paste form. Stropping with compounds of 1, 3, 6 and 9 microns work very well.
